Dear Clients and Friends of Hale Lane:

Over the past four decades, the law firm started by Edward Everett Hale has grown to be one of Nevada’s leading law firms, serving many of Nevada’s largest and most successful businesses.  We are grateful for the trust you have in our firm and our attorneys, a trust that we do not take for granted.  So, I wanted to inform you of a significant new change about to take place with our firm and a great expansion of the services we will be able to provide you in the future.

Over the years, we have grown to meet our clients changing needs.  Twenty years ago, we opened an office in Las Vegas to serve the growing business community in Southern Nevada.  In 1999, we opened an office in Carson City to better serve our clients who have interests in the State Capital.  Now we are announcing the combination of Hale Lane with Holland & Hart, a regional law firm with offices throughout the Mountain West.

Many of our clients have asked us to assist them with issues that are beyond the capabilities of a state-wide firm.  It is no surprise that other regional and national law firms have opened offices in our great state.  For several years the partners of Hale Lane have looked at potential partners to offer top-shelf experience in other states, as well as a wider breadth of practice areas to best serve our clients.  Finding the right partner has been core to our client service and growth strategy.

The combination with Holland & Hart is a natural partnership.  Holland & Hart is the largest law firm based in the Mountain West.  They have 14 offices in seven states and Washington D.C. and offer depth in areas of practice which we desire to offer to our clients, including natural resources, securities, white collar defense, renewable energy and intellectual property, among other areas.

The combined firm will have more than 400 attorneys in 15 offices in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington D.C.  We will have 63 attorneys in Nevada, making us among the top four firms in the state.  Holland & Hart has existing offices in Las Vegas and Reno.  Combined we will have 33 attorneys in Reno, 26 attorneys in Las Vegas and 4 attorneys in Carson City.

Like us, Holland & Hart ranks in the top of lawyer rankings like “Best Lawyers in America” and “Chambers USA”.  Their commitment to Pro Bono work is legendary, having been ranked by American Lawyer in the Top 10 for Pro Bono work for each of the past ten years.  The Holland & Hart Foundation has set the standard for law firm volunteerism, having won the International InnovAction award for law firm innovation last year.  We will also be able to offer the services of Holland & Hart’s in-house trial consulting firm, Persuasion Strategies, as well as a number of other ancillary services.

What does this mean for our clients?  While our name will change to Holland & Hart, and there may be some administrative and billing changes over time, you will still be working with the attorneys and staff that you are now.  All of the partners voted to join Holland & Hart, and we do not anticipate any staffing changes on matters.  Nor, do we anticipate any rate changes, due to this combination of firms.   We have structured the transition plan to minimize the impact on our operations in Reno, Carson City and Las Vegas, so we can continue to remain focused on serving our clients.

We will want to introduce you to a few of our new partners at Holland & Hart, and we hope that you will ask us how the combined firm can help you and your business in the future.  Already a number of our clients have inquired about our new capabilities and offices.

The management committee and partners of Hale Lane have met with our counterparts at Holland & Hart for months now.  One comment I’ve heard over and over is that, “they are just like us.” From how we make decisions, to our sense of humor, we found our new partners to be cut from the same cloth as we are.  Finding a partnership with a strong cultural fit is important to us because culture translates into how we work together as a team and how we serve our clients.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your attorney or myself.  We are convinced that you will be pleased with our new partnership.  Thank you again for the trust and confidence you have in Hale Lane, and we look forward to serving you as Holland & Hart.

Sincerely,

Timothy A. Lukas
President and Managing Shareholder
